August 8, 2022
Santiago, August 8, 2022- To continue accelerating the energy transition, AES Andes implemented changes in its management, which were agreed upon by its board of directors. The current CEO of AES Andes, Ricardo Falú, takes on a new role with global reach at The AES Corporation as Senior Vice President, Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer.
Javier Dib, the current Market Business Leader of AES Chile, became CEO of AES Andes.
Ricardo Falú will remain linked to the Company’s leadership and the progress of the Greentegra strategy from his new position. Likewise, Falú will be proposed as a new member of the AES Andes board of directors at an Extraordinary Shareholders' Meeting on August 24.
Achievements and progress made during the leadership of Ricardo Falú
Regarding Falú's new global role, the chairman of AES Andes’ board of directors, Juan Ignacio Rubiolo said, “We are proud of this new challenge that Ricardo Falú will undertake at AES. We are confident that his leadership, strategy and innovation skills will allow us to address emerging opportunities; grow in meaningful ways; and raise the profile of the transformative work we are doing at AES around the world.” Rubiolo added "on behalf of the board of directors, we thank him for everything he has achieved in his years as CEO of AES Andes. Thanks to his vision, the Company began its renewable transformation process under the Greentegra strategy in 2018."
Since then, AES Andes has signed 11.4TWh/year in long-term renewable contracts, adding 1 GW of renewable energy and battery capacity to its portfolio. At the same time, it has closed or sold 1.7GW of its thermoelectric capacity in Chile, allowing the Company to go from 17% renewables in its portfolio in 2017 to 46% today.
In this regard, Ricardo Falu said "I am very honored and grateful for the board’s trust all these years and am proud of what we have achieved as a team at AES Andes. I will continue to work to accelerate the energy transition, contributing with concrete solutions to combat climate change."
The strategy has also shattered long-standing stereotypes in the power sector and has generated significant changes in terms of Diversity and Inclusion. “We aim to achieve gender equality before 2030 to continue reinforcing a diverse and inclusive work environment that humanizes us and strengthens us even more.” Ricardo Falú said.
The future of AES Andes under Javier Dib
Under the leadership of Javier Dib, the Company will continue to promote the energy transition in a responsible manner.
By 2025, AES Andes has committed to reducing its coal-fired generation capacity almost entirely while increasing its renewable portfolio by more than 1.5GW. This growth plan translates into significant investments, creating thousands of jobs, developing nearby communities and material inroads on the path to carbon neutrality.
The new CEO is a public accountant from the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán in Argentina with a postgraduate degree in Finance from Fundación Magíster de Argentina.
Since joining AES in 2002, Dib has held leadership positions in the financial area in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, Panama, Argentina and Chile. In addition to serving as CEO of AES Chile, he is the CEO of Chile Renovables and Empresa Eléctrica Cochrane, among other AES subsidiaries in the region.
Rubiolo welcomed Dib into his new role saying,” Javier is the most qualified person to move forward with our transition. He has supported Greentegra since its inception. He knows the tremendous opportunities that the Company has in the markets in which we operate, but above all he has the required leadership skills to successfully achieve the strategic objectives that we have set for ourselves. The board is confident that with him at the helm, the Company’s transformation will continue at a steady pace”.
Dib said “I am very grateful for the trust that the board of directors has placed in me to continue leading the Company's strategy and further deepen Greentegra. We have an ambitious plan that includes not only the output of thermoelectric plants and the growth of renewables, but also applied innovations in the installation of projects and a robust plan for incorporating batteries.”
