The CNE approves AES Andes’ request to discontinue operations at the Laguna Verde plant

- The withdrawal of the power plant is a new step in the strategy to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

Santiago, June 2, 2021.- In line with efforts to accelerate the disconnection of its thermoelectric operations in the country, AES Andes has obtained the approval of the National Energy Commission (CNE) to advance with the final closure of the Laguna Verde Power Plant (58 MW of installed capacity), located in the town of the same name in the commune of Valparaíso.

The National Energy Commission (CNE) approved the application -submitted in April by AES Andes- for an exemption from the time limit for withdrawal, disconnection and cessation of operations of the Laguna Verde Power Plant (58MW of capacity), which the law has fixed at 24 months for generation facilities and accepted the request for withdrawal on May 31, 2021.

The withdrawal of the power plant is a new step for the company in its process to accelerate the transition to renewable energy, a key element of its Greentegra transformational strategy, which began in May 2018.

Through Greentegra, AES Andes contributes to the sustainable reactivation of the countries where it operates with investments of nearly US$3 billion in renewable power projects that will generate more than 7,000 direct jobs with a focus on hiring women and local labor.

AES Andes is integrating 2260 MW of wind, solar, hydroelectric and battery capacity to its portfolio in Chile and Colombia, from 2019 to 2023, with 1354 MW already in operation or under construction.
